SYDNEY, -March 24. lne schooner Enterprise, from Long Is-, reports, that she discovered the beaches . strewn wif& Slafirge quantities of Oregon timber, evidence of the wreck at ®-recent date of a large^lumber- ship or that deck cargo had been washed overboard. There were no marks on the timber to-le&d to identifiration. She also discovered; ast abandoned hut on the island wherein wfts stacked a quantity of timber andglass. - • There"'was no sign of recent habitation. -J) Amongst the papers found m the • hut was ~ a" note dated November | 96, signed by the mate of the ketofr Sislon which was wrecked on the island, stating -that he and five of a kanaka crew were .then, leaving for Coottown an<f asking anyone hot in need of. "stores there to leave them as the owner expected to come back to take them. The only living creatures seen on the island were half a dozen, goats and a cat.
