TENNIS.

A CLUB MATCH. Failing to arrange a foreign match for the holiday, the membera of the Timaru Tennis Club arranged a home match for yesterday, sides being chosen by Messrs R. C. Ternent and J. A. Johnson. The weather, was all that could be wished, and all who took part in the day's p'ay enjoyed themselves very much. The games staited about 9.30 a.m., and were kept going till 6.30 p.m., when Mr Johnson's learn were returned the winners by 47 games. Play throughout was very interesting, a pleasing feature being the attendance and active support of so many new members. Luncb was served in the pavilion, and at the call of Mr Tennent,- the toast of " The King " was heartily drunk, with musical honours — a verse of the National Anthem and "For He's a Jolly Good During an interval very nice afternoon • tea was served to the players and spectators.
