GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting.of the Geraldine County Council was held on Thursday. Present—Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), A. Kelman, Wright and Macdonald. The Geraldine Flat Water-race Committee reported that all races in the district were in first-class order. The Waitohi Flat Committee reported, advised the leasing of eight acres of resetve. —The Council gives the committee authority to lease on conditions such as they may desire, but in the matter of a .gate to. give access fOi.cross_.the river the committee to consult the overseer of the Temuka Road Board before acting.

The period of two months allowed by the Board in which to confirm the contract or otherwise, had also lapsed, and .lio word had been heard from the Government in that time as to the promised grant towards' the work. —Gontractor's deposit to be returned. Tenders were received as follows for supply of ironbark planking for the Opihi bridge, Main road:—Murray Arnold and Co. (New Zealand agent, Dunedin), 24s 6d ; John Jackson (Timaru). 255; F. J. MacLean (Wellington), 255; Gollin and Co., 26s 6d; National Mortgage and Agency Co., 25s (accepted). The engineers reported on the necessity of increasing the piles of the Victoria and Rolleston bridges over the Orari owing to the continued rise in the shingle. —Tenders to be called for a supply of piles. Accounts amounting to 9d were passed for payment. The Council then rose.
