PLOUGHING MATCH AT WAIMATE.
There was a large attendance at the ploughing match on Thursday, held in one of Mr J. H. Mitchell's paddocks near Studho'me Junction. The weather was beautifully fine, and the conditions generally were in favour of both competitors and onlookers. There were twenty-one ploughs on the ground, all the classes except single furrows filling well. The ploughing on the whole was well done and favourably commented on by judges and spectators. The judges were Messrs John Howden, R. Irvine, and Thomas Liken, and their awards were as follows : CLASS A (open), cut as you please; Ist prize £7, 2nd £5, 3rd £3, 4th £2, 5-; h £l.—A. Hall 1, M. Brophy 2, A. Brown junr. 3, W. Bell 4, N. Gray 5. C. White also competed. Best break, A. Brown; straight ploughing A. Brown; best in and outs, M. Brophy; best finish, A. Brown.
