WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the above was held on Tuesday, when there were present —His Worship "the Mayor (chair), Councillors Miller, Inkster, Morgan, Saunders, Jones and Freeman. Councillor Coltman sent an apology for absence on. account of illness. The Mayor expressed regret, on behalf of himself and the Council, at the cause of Councillor Coltman's illness.

The Feilding Borough Council asked the Council's co-operation in an effort to simplify and remodel" borough by-laws.—On the motion of Councillors Morgan and Sinclair, it was resolved that a committee consisting of the Mayor and Councillors Jones, Coltman, and Barclay be appointed to deal with the letter from Feilding Council, the committee to have power to revise the by-laws of the borough and report to the Council at a future meeting.

Mr D. A. Buckingham asked extension of time for work -of gorse-clearing in the borough in consequence of the recent wetweather.—Granted.

Mr William Quinn asked permission tq shift a crossing in High street to a point east of .Guinness and LeCren's building.— Granted.

The Town Clerk, Oamaru, asked to be informed if Waimiite had recently been surveyed by Government direction, and if so at whose request the survey was made and the charge made for the work.—Rejply to be made that no such survey has been made or ordered.

Mr J. Maberley asked permission to erect an iron roof cover over the timber on his premises in Gregson street.—Granted. "> Mr Atwill, for Messrs Priest and Holdgate, asked for permission to erect a corrugated iron roof as a protection to ironrack, and a post in front of business premises in Queen street, at which to- tie up horses. The Clerk was instructed to have the pruning* in Victoria Park sold. The surfaceman reported on his work on the borough roads and footpaths. Tha. committee appointed to consider the subject of lighting for the borough reported on the matter, and the report was adjourned till next Council meeting for consideration of the Council.

The lense of the right-of-way between Mr F. AkhuTst's business premises and the premises of Messrs Manchester and Co. in Queen street was allowed to be renewed.

It was resolved that the Town Clerk certify as to the progress of the work done by the surfaceman and day workmen in the borough to each Council meeting. Accounts amounting to £77 14s Id were passed for payment.
