MASSACRE OF MISSIONARIES.

THE OBJECT OF THE RISING. . United Press Association—Per Electric Telegraphs—Copyright. * ' SYDNEY, September 14. A letter has been received by the General Secretary of the Methodist Mission from an Island correspondent, who mentions that early in August there was a rising in German New Guinea, led by tin ex-New Britain boy. The object of the rising* was the extermination of the whites. The Vice-Governor, quelled the disturbance, and all is now quiet. Then, referring to the massacres of the Catholic missionaries at New Britain, he says the quarrel was instigated by Father Rasher's house boy, who was trained by the mission itself. There were also two raids on the station at Mavier, which were repulsed, on the Sunday morning foUowing the murders; The 'natives were only too willing to participate in the raids, as they were feeling sore aboutwhat they regarded as higli-handed action on the part of some member of the mission. Another e'ement in the matter was that the boy wanted to marry a station girl, and the members refused to allow him to do so. This lad organised the affair, •ind.sh,ot.Padre Rasher with his own gun. Padre'' Rasher's body was cut' into small pieces, "aiid. all the other bodies were more ir less mutilated.
