ALLEGED CANCER CURE.

To the Editor of the ',' Timaru Herald." Sir,—l received with your issue -o'f yesterday an inset detailing the wonderful cures wrought by a man styling himself "Stanton the Healer" and Specialist." Cancer we all know to be the despair of surgery and in suitable cases can only be treated by the profession by means of operation. Attached to all advertisements of so-called specialists and patent ;medicines are always numerous testimoni•als, the truthfulness or veracity _ef which are of course always open to criticism. If ■Mr Stanton really possesses a cure for ■cancer, I should think he hardly requires 'to tour a small country like New Zealand; 'he could go Home,-and setting up in London rapidly amass a fortune. Medical men ,1 think are always ready to investigate any new methods of treating disease. I •would suggest that four 6"r five cases pi undoubted cancer be taken to, say, the Timaru Hospital and ireatcd there by Mr Stanton, the local medicos not interfering, but merely taking' notes of the cases. If a cure-was effected in any or all of the cases, it would be a splendid advertisement for Mr Stanton. If Mr Stanton is really possessed of a cure, the Government not only of New Zealand, but the Governments of other countries, ought to take the matter up and .pay handsomely for the secret. It is realljr dreadful to think of the amount of suffering from this fearful disease. In the interests of humanity the secret for its successful treatment ought to be disclosed. It would be calamitous if Mr Stanton should die with this great secret unrevealed. If Mr Stanton fails to cure the cases selected, then of course the public can draw their own conclusions. Some years ago Count Mattri's remedies were largely advertised for the cure of cancer. Tho remedies Were faithfully administered, and Mattel's treatment carried out in one of the London hospitals. Tho results were nil. In the intorents of humanity I trust this investigation may turn out differenlly; ;.'' I «m, f»tc, PHItAKTHROPIST. > June 7th, 1904,
