MELBOURNE,- June-,7. At the Methodist Conference the". Rev. ,Mr of New Zealand, moved the adoption of the recommendation of a committee with regard to membership, which, while retaining class fellowship meetings, and urging attendance .thereat,- does' not make it the basis of church membership. He stated that it had been adopted by the Methodist churches in rsx- out of die seven States in Australasia. .An animated debate ensued. The Rev. Mr Carruthers, of New South Wales, moved an amendment —"That it is inexpedient to make any fundamental change in the basis of membership, but recognising the desirability of adopting forms of fellowship to circumstances it is "splved •to~estebbsh monthly testimony meetings.
