CHRISTCHURCH, April 23. At a meeting of the Royal Humane Society to-day, James Knowles junr., of Napier, was awarded a gold medal, the first bsued by the Society. On previous occasions he has received a certificate, a silver medal, and a silver clasp. Yae-vas-o-Ronga, of Cook Islands, was awarded a siver clasp in addition to- the silver medal, which he already holds. Silver medals were awarded to Constable Leonard J. Cookery (Wellington). Charles Hirawani (TeAroha), Frederick Kregar (Waverley). and Charles Hansen (Gisborne) ; bronze medals to Richard Cassidy (Invereargill). Matthew Bennie (Brunnerton) and Walter William Hurley Northcote (Auckland) ; framed certificates to Hannah M. Mosley (Stirling) and Emily R. Barron (Ellerslie)"; an in memoriam certificate to the relations of Ivar Jacobus Hoiby, who was drowned in attempting a rescue at Gisborne; a certificate on vellum to Arthur Shapton Richards (Gisborne) ; an ordinary certificate to Robert Hall (Christchurch);" a special letter of commendation to Captain W. D. Reid (Auckland): letters of commendation to Elizabeth Ferrier (Fairfax), Constable A. Skinner lAuckland). Constable James Cahill (Auckland). James Kane (Timaru), and Mary Khouri (Christchurch).
