LOCAL OPTION PETITIONS.
Per Press Association. DTJXEDIN, January 26. The hearing of the petition against the Chalmers local option poll was rixed for to-day. There was no appearance against the petition. Mr C. C. Graham, S.M., said that he had decided that he had jurisdiction. Mr Adams had stated "when the case was called on previously that he would apply to the Supreme Court for an injunction against his hearing the petition, but he had not done so. He adjourned the inquiry until March. The hearing of the petition against the local option poll at Bruce was commenced at Milton. Mr F. R. Chapman, Mr W. A. Sim, and Mr D. Reid appeared in suppott of the petition, and Mr A. S. Adams and Mr J. F. Woodkouse to oppose. The petition set out various" irregularities, arid Mr Chapman in his opening said that the Act mitt'ut or might not affect the resnlt of a poll, but the poll could be voided thoush such effect were not proved, but some" act or acts had a tendency in that direction. In the petition there weie five classes of acts alleged which tended to defeat the fairness of the poll. Three of these were positive allegations, and the other two were qualified. Nineteen witnesses had been called in support of the petition when the Court adjourned. _____^____^_
