THE ENGLISHMEN AT NELSON. Per Press Association. NELSON, January .26. The English cricketers arrived last nightafter a rainy trip from Blenheim, and were welcomed by the Mayor and a large concourse in spite of the downpour. Warner and Whatman are the guests of Mr Percy Adams, the others are staying at the Masonic Hotel. Stanning and Williams_come on by steamer to-day. Dowson ana Bosanquet have gone fishing, and will join the team at Christchurch. The English cricketers were driven into the country to-day, and partook of afternoon tea at Bishopsdale. The match commences at 11 a.m. to-morrow. The wicket is still wet after Sunday's rain. THE CANTERBURY TEAM. CHRISTCHURCH, January 26. -The following team has been selected to represent Canterbury against Lord Hawke's eleven: — Boxshall, Callaway, Prankish, Garrard, Lawrence, Orchard, "JRearce, D. Reese, T. W. Reese, Sims, and Strange. TIMARU V. 'CIVIL SERVICE. ■Good cricketing weather favoured this match, which was played on Saturday. The Service skipper, winning the toss, sent his opponents into the field. Several players showed fair form with the bat, but the last wicket put on 30 runs, Lovegrove by vigorous play carrying his bat for 32. L. Wright with his slows obtained the best bowling analysis, and Jameson at short leg brought off a brilliant catch. Timaru were unable to do much with Wade's fast bowling, Whitton laying, the wood on for 21. Civil Service scored a well deserved win bv 42 runs. Scores: CIVIL SERVICE. T. W.
