SOME VALID REASONS AGAINST PROHIBITION.
Because it is degrading for a people to 1)6 treated as though they lacked the virtues of self-control and self-respect. Because Prohibition would curtail the liberty of the many for the faults of an insignificant minority. Because there is no instance of national progress among nations that do not use alcohol. Because Prohibition does not prohibit but encourages sly drinking. Because Prohibition wherever tried has proved a failure. Because Paul's advice to Timothy, "Drink no longer wa'ter, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine own infirmities," -was sound and rational. Because Prohibition is opposed to the teachings of Christ, and to the dictates of common sense. Because Prohibition invariably diminishes trade and creates commercial stagnation. Because no majority, however large, should interfere with the private actions, diet or creed of well-behaved citizens. Because after forty trials in various parts of the United States, the system has in thirty-four instances been already abandoned. « , . , .
