MURDEROUS ATTACKS BY NATIVES. Per PresH Association. AUCKLAND, Jniv 24. Fiji .papers contain particulars "of the trials at the Suva Supreme Court of several Indian coolies for murderous attacks on plantation overseers. At Ba an Indian named Shanku was sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude for wounding with intent to murder Mr W. K. Sweetlstnd, at Rarawai, Ba. Mr Sweetland was terriblv injured.jwith a cane knife by the prisoner, and had to have his left hand amputated. The assault ocenrred last .November. For another affair of wounding Mr C. H. Lamb and Mr J. W. Sadlier on Ma Vatu estate, three Indian labourers received sentences of six years, four years, and two years/ hard labour respectively. In the assault on Mr Lamb three men attacked him last month while he was going hi s round of the lines inspecting He was knocked down and beaten verv severely. The men then left for thennouses to get their knives. Mr Lamb climbed up a mango tree. Two of the men- had started to climb the tree after aim when help came.
