A Maori named Hemi Omukite, of Waingoro, fillei a lead pipe n.ith gunpowder, and applied a. light to the nip*, which rebounded and struck him on 'che forehead, killing him instantly. A fire in a whare near Nethertou is reported. The whare was occupied bv Mr James Richmond, his wife, and twochildrea. They were awakened by the roof of the whare falling in >apon "than, the building being in. g. blaze. Mrs Richmond managed to get out with her infant, and Mr Richmond saved his little buy.
