ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 24. A lad, lv years of age, the eldest son of Mr John Rowe, builder, of Onehunga, made a hearty meal of polonies. The following day he was taken seriously ill, and death ensued. It is supposed to be a case of poisoning. An aecicent took place at Opotiki to-day, Mr T. Butt's son, aged five years, being drowned. He was playing about a well in the backyard, and overbalanced and fell into six feet of water, striking his head on the bricks as he fell. A considerable time elapsed before he was missed.
NAPIER, February 24. A trap accident occurred at Pakowhai this afternoon, by which a lad named John Mundell, aged seven years, son of Mr Adam Mundell, livery stable-keeper at Hastings, lost his life. .The boy, with his father, two sisters, and a man named Stack, had been on a blackberrying expedition, and were driving home, but when near the Pakowhai bridge the horse jibbed, and all the occupants of the trap alighted, Stack catching hold of the horse's head, but it pulled back,' and in doing so, jammed the boy against the fence. Mr Mundell picked*the boy up, but after a few gasps He expired in his father's arms. The horse is a very quiet animal, but is known as a bad jibber. Much sympathy is felt for the parents of the unfortunate lad. CHRISTCHURCH, February 24. Mr William R«eves Donald', farmer, Fiench Farm, near Akaroa, died suddenly this morning.
