With reference to the relief ship which is to act as tender to the Discovery, Sir Clements Markham writes as follows to the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia:—"! bought a ship in Norway thus early because it was necessary to secure the most suitable ship at once, as others wanted her. including the Russian Government. She is a very strong ship of oak and grewheart, 450 tons. The cost was £3BOO. I have succeeded in collecting £9OOO, with the greatest possible difficulty, but. unless we can get £BOOO or £IO,OOO more, it will not be possible to fit out and despatch the relief ship. Her name is the Morning."
