Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 10. A meeting of ratepayers to-night unanimously approved of the proposal of the City Council to borrow £350,000 for electriJ tramways, street paving and town hall. This "proposal, if carried at a poll, will supersede the proposals already sanctioned bv tiij iatepavers to borrow £225,000, £55,000 and £50,000 for the respective purposes. The Mayor explained that it was desired to consolidate the loans instead of going on the London market for them separately. DUNEDIN, February 10. The Council of the Churches to-night de- . eided to forward to Parliament a petition praying for the abolition of gambling in general and the totalisator in particular.
