SYDNEY,, January 25. ■ Tenders for a New Zealand-South African steam service are called for in Australian papers this morning. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, January 25. The Government is calling for tenders for a steam service to South Africa. The available subsidy is £30.000. The contract is to be for three years, and the steamers e to be not less than 2000 ions cr - more than 4000 tons, fitted with refrigerators, and accommodation for passengers, mails and live stock. The vessels must have a speed of not less than ten knots, and preference will be given to these having more. Rates of freight are fixed by the Government- at:—Wheat and flour, 30s par ton ; barley, 32s 6d; oats, 355; bran, 40s; hay. etc.." 37s 6d per ton of. 50 cubic feet; potatoes, 40s in sacks, 37s 6d in boxes per ton of 50 cubic feet; frozen meat and dairv produce at the current summer rates ruling between New Zealand and London ; other goods at not less than current rates between New Zealand and London.
