THE BRASS BAND CONTEST.

NEW PLYMOUTH, December 1. The forthcoming brass bands contest, to be held here next year, promises to be a great success. Nineteen bands have been nominated and sixteen entries have been received, which constitntes a record for New Zealand, and the other three (Oamaru, Nelson and Westport City) entries may be to hand bv the incoming mail. The bands entered are Granitv Creek (West Coast), Denniston (West Coast), Thames Navals, Wailii. Ruahine Battalion, Masterton Municipal. Palmerston North. Petone, Wellington Garrison, Wanganui Garrison, Duriedin Navals, North East Valley
: (Dunedin), Hauraki. (Thames), Kaikorai ! (Dunedin), Gisborne, and Taranaki Garrison. Already considerable interest is manifested in contest matters throughout the district, and with an influx of visitors from other parts of the colony a record gathering "may be expected during contest : week.
