Although 13,000 Boers have been accounted for since May, only 4400 rifles have been taken. Fifteen Indian staff corps officers are going to South Africa. Several hundred Boers made a determined attempt to cross the railway at West Middleburg, Transvaal, but were repulsed, suffering considerably. From the beginning of ISO?, no persons will be allowed to land at the Cape and Natal without a permit certifying thtk their' character is satisfactory, and that they aro in possession of means for their maintenance.
