INVERCARGILL, October 21.
The Chamber of Commerce to-day, in response to the Premier's telegram re the Federal traffic, passed resolutions strongly disapproving of reprisals as undignified and at variance with the spirit of fraternity which should exist between two important dependencies of the Empire, and that with the object of opening up fresh markets the Government be urged to take steps to foster trade to South Africa by erecting cool stores there and subsidising a line of steamers. '
A motion suggesting, an erport duty on dressed timber and a substantial duty on undressed timber, the revenue to be applied towards reafforestation, was held over till nest meeting. It was resolved to protest against the proposed amendment of \the Stamp Act; also against the practice! of bleeding of sacks of grain on shipboard, in order to fill up corners, the grain being, after discharge of the ship, swept up and rebagged with all the dirt, and \depreeiating the shipment. The attention of the Minister of Agriculture is to be drawn to the practice. ________
