THE HOME MARKETS.

Messrs Dalgety and Co. report under date London, October 10th:—"The tallow market is very quiet. Speculators are forcing sales. "The -wool sales closed firm. Prices of superior Geelong merino fleece are on the average 5 per cent, higher than the closing rates of last series. All ot'-er descriptions of N merino and fine crossbrel are 7£ per cent, to 10 per cent higher. Medium and coarse crossbred are at psr to 5 per cent, lower. Lambs' wool is 5 per cent to 10 per cent, big ler, but pric ts are very irregular. Out of the nzt oi entity of colonial wool avaiKolc for the sale about 140,000 bales nave been sold for home consumption, tales for the Continent, 3000 bales for A.-n .::•.•*. leaving 33,000 bales to be carried fo-wvrd to the next series, of which, ii'i jau 25,000 bales are crossbreds."

SATURDAY'S SALES. The Farmers' Exchange Co. (per Mr J. B. Rutland, auctioneer) report on last Saturday's sales as follows : —There was a good attendance, and bidding was brisk. Poultry.—Roosters, 2s 6d to 4s; hens, Is 9d to 3s; ducks, 3s 6d to 4s pair; turkey gobblers 5s to 6s 6d, hens*3s each. Pigs.6s 6d to 15s each. Pork.—3d to 3£d per lb. Potatoes. —Derwents, 6s to 8s 6d. Fowl wheat—7s to 8s 6d per sack (sacks in). A lot of furniture was cleared at satisfactory prices, and the sale of drapery, clothing, etc., was a pronounced success, and will be continued daily this week. The Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association (per Mr Gus Jones, auctioneer), report an entry of 33 draught, harness, and hackney horses on Saturday. The attendance was'good throughout the sale, and the few young horses that were in met with good competition, at £34,, £36 10s, £37, to £4l; aged and stale draughts were slow of sale. Next Saturday we have a consignment of high quality pedi- j gree mares coming to our market; also eight young draught mares and geldings i to be disposed of under bill of sale.
