The " Spectator" publishes Mr Rhodes' and Mr Schnabhorst's correspondence relative to the subscription of £SOOO by\ Mr Rhodes to the Liberal party's funds. Mr Rhodes, who desired Home Rule with representatiives at Westminster, and "the retention, of Egypt, was horrified with Mr Morley's. scuttle speech, and was subsequently disturbed by Mr Gladstone foreshadowing the withdrawal from Egypt. If his (Mr Rhodes') wishes were not met, the desired money should be given, to charity. There is no indication in the correspondence, that Mr Schnabhorst acquainted Mr Gladstone of Mr Rhodes' offer, but he calmed Mr Rhodes' anxiety by stating that Lord Rosebery's policy as Foreign Secretary would be very different from that of Lord Granville's pliant suppleness.
