A STORMY EXPERIENCE.
A few days ago the French barque Admiral Troude, laden with 2500 ions of coal from Cardiff for Nagasaki, Japan, called at Sydney through stress of weatnor, the voyage up to that time having occupied 120 days. ' A light wind on approaching Van Dieman's Land necessitated the captain " standing off " for safety, and the barque was subsequently beset by adverse conditions, which culminated in furious gales and mountainous sea 3. In a gale on September Bth she had a particularly bad time, big seas sweeping her decks, and endangering the lives of the crew. During the height of this storm the cargo shifted. The vessel knocked about to an alarming extent, and the rough handling she was subjected to resulted in a leak being started, the vessel making rs much as ,4ft 6in of water in fortyeight hours. Fortunately, the leak was located. It was above water-line in the quarter, and, temporary repairs being effected during a break/in the weather, the captain decided to come on to Sydney for repairs. Altogether the barque was fourteen days knocking about off the Tasmania coast before she was headed for Sydney. The damage to the barque i? all above water-line, and as soon as the necessary repairs have been effected nhe will continue her voyage for Japan.
