TFTF. LOCAL MARKETS. The chief feature of the : local produce market on the week has been another advance. in the prices of potatoes. The quotation now is £4 5s to £4 10s, but not much is doing owing to holders hanging on for yet higher prices. Business in wheat is quiet, but more animation would be shown if holders showed in- . clination to meet buyers. Quotations are 2s 4£d for velvet and red chaff, 2s 5d to 2s 6d for tuscan. There are plenty of buyers of oats, but growers are not in-, dined to sell at present quotations. These are Canadians Is 7d to Is Bd, other sorts Is 6d. Malting barley is quoted at 2s to 2s 3d, feed Is 6d to Is 9d, Cape la 9d to 2s. GERALDINE HORSE SALE. " Messrs Mating and Shallcrass held a very successful horse sale at Gieraldine on Thursday, when there was a good attendance of buyers. Owing to the dangerous «tate of the roads through the severe frosts the sale was late in starting, and the implement sale had to be abandoned. The roads were so bad that quite a chapter of. accidents happened to horses on' f.Tmrr -way in to the sale. A horse owned by Mr J. Cain, of Kakahu, slipped on thfl- Pleasant Valley road and broke its neck. The animal was valued at about £7.- -Another horse fell and broke a leg, and had to be shot, while another fell nr»iT broke its knees. Despite the dangers of the road there was an entry of 56 horses of all sorts which -sold at the following prices:—Draughts, £25, £27, £3O, £32, £34, £35 10s; aged draughts, £ll, £l2 10s, £l3, £l4, £l4 10s ; spring cart horses, £2O 10s, £22, £24, to £25; hacks, £li, £l3, £l4, £l4 10s, £ls, to £2O; aged weeds, hacks, £5 to £5 10s. •
