LABOUR ITEMS

Per Press Association. THAMES, May 10. I At the Conciliation Court evidence was given by Mr O'Keefe, ex-president of the Union, to the effect that in three years the Union had disbursed nearly £4OOO out of the fund to miners meeting with accidents. He stated that it was unfair, that the companies v should have the power of terminating the contract each month if; the price was too high. He approved of the present demands, and said that union wages, if agreed to, would give a decided impetus to mining, because better men would be available. This would lead to the introduction of further capital.

: CHRISTCHURCH, May 10. It was alleged at the Arbitration Court this morning by a representative of the Tanners' Union, that he had been dismissed by his employer, G. Bowron, for refusing to supply a,list of Unionists. He alleged also that other Unionists had been dismissed by Bowron for taking part in the Arbitration proceedings. The Court advised the Union to take proper proceedings inf the matter.
