AUCKLAND EDUCATION BOARD

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 2. At the meeting of the Board of Educaa letter was read from the Minister of Education, suggesting a scheme for the distribution of the special grant to increase teachers' salaries. The suggested scheme differed in some respects from the last proposal of the Board, mainly to the disadvantage of country teachers. The aggregate amount of the allowance, according to the scheme, would be £6973 against £7220 originally proposed by the Minister, and £7400 proposed by the Board. It was resolved to accept the Minister s scheme under protest, the ground of the protest being that the allocation was too much in the interests of town teachers, and not liberal enough to country teachers. It was agreed to. give the additional money in the form of bonuses to teachers.
