TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF TIMARU. T ADIES AND GENTLEMEN Having accepted Nomination for the Mayoralty, I now request those favourable to my Candidature to record their approval at the Poll TO-DAY (Wednesday), 24th April. The Kerbing and Channelling and Inverting of Gullies already completed have added much] to the Cleanliness and Health of the Town. The further prosecution of this Work will receive my fullest support. It will be incumbent o& your representative to make provision for the proper inspection of Meat killed for human consumption. These matters claim first consideration. Other questions, such as Free Library, Recreation Parks, and Purchase of Gasworks, may well take a secondary place, and receive consideration' as occasion arises. While alive to the necessity of following a Progressive Policy for the improvement and advancement of the Town, I am not at all favourable to any great borrowing scheme. For any such scheme it might be advisable to await the maturity of our Waterworks Loan a few years hence. In regard to Gas versus Electricity, I understand the Christchurch authorities have taken steps to obtain a Home Expert to report on the feasibility of bringing Electrical Power to that district. The Council might secure the benefit of such advice regarding our own resources for Electric Lighting. While practising Economy, every effort should be made to maintain the efficiency of the Town Services, and if elected, it will be my duty to conserve your interests in the administration of the affairs of the Borough. I am, yours faithfully, JOHN McNAB; miMARU BOROUGH COUNCIL. NOTICE OF NOMINATIONS OF CANDIDATES FOR ELECTION ON THE 24th APRLL, 1901.
