Per Press Association. ~NELSON, April 8. At a meeting of the Nelson Harbour Board, it was decided by seven to three to adopt Mr Leslie Reynold's number 2 plan for improvements to Nelson harbour. The Nelson volunteers with some from Marlborough, have been in camp during the holidays, and though rain was experienced till to-day, some good work was done. Thtere were about five hundred under canvas. To-day a, sham fight and review were witnessed by large numbers of people, and the volunteers acquitted themselves exceedingly well. The athletic and cycling sports at I<oxhill to-day were largely attended, and the events were well contested. There were several outside competitors. Evans, ot Wellington, won the Foxtail Handicap, the half-mile, and the 220 and 440 hurdles. Carrisou, of Wellington, won the two mile amateur cycle race. CHRISTCHURCH, Ajiril 8. The weather for the holiday was glorious till about 4 o'clock ill the afternoon, when a, squall with heavy ram came up from the south-west. Large crowds of people went to the seaside. DUNEDIN, April 8. By an explosion of gas last night on the premises occupied by Mr Ramsay, sharobroker, considerable damage was done thereto, and to tho roof of Mr Rattray'*
bond adjoining. Mr Ramsay, who was hurled to the roof of the bond, escaped with a shaking. At Earnscleugh Flat, near Alexandra, two men while sluicing, unearthed the thigh bones and pelvis of a man, who is supposed to have been buried for 30 years. At the Tennis Association's tournament the men's doubles was won by C. White and E. Salmond, Miss Campbell (present champion) beat Miss M. Ramsay in the final of the ladies' singles.
