SHOOTING.

The Timaru Port Guards fired a friendly match at Oamaru on Tuesday against the Oamaru Rifles. They! journeyed to Oam-, aru by the morning train, were met on arrival "by Lieut. Swan ;md his men, and driven to the range. The match resulted in an easy win for the Guards by 146 points. The shooting was much below the average, there being a very strong and tricky wind blowing down the range, which -•; >lz good shooting impossible, most of the best shots-getting several misses at the 600 yards. The Oamaru Company are at a great disadvantage in their shooting, on account of the distance the rifle range is from the town. The Oamaru team provided refreshments on the range, which were very acceptable, and after the match they enterained the visitors to a good dinner at the Globe Hotel,' the Timaru team leaving for home by the last train, having enjoyed their trip exceedingly well. The conditions of the match, were 10 shots at 500 and 600 yards. The scores are as follows:' ■ —
