THE BLUFF REGATTA.
Per Press Association. * INVERCARGILL, January 2. The weather was fine but dull till 3 o'clock when a steady rain fell. There was the usual crowd of visitors to the port it being regatta day, 'B3OO being carried; but - most of the people took 'to the hills and Ward Parade. There is little to chronicle about the regatta, the wind was too light for sailing races, and the gig. races, were confined to the local clubs. The Junior Fours (outrigged) was won by the Railway _ Rowing Club, with the Invercargill Club r second; the senior outrigged fours by the a Railway Club, Invercargill Club second. - e When the rain commenced to fall the plight t of the people became lamentable. Not for j many years has the provision made by the { Railway Department -.been so inadequate y for sheltering passengers, and many had to l make the journey of 18 miles in uncovered o trucks, while rain fell steadily, reaching J town saturated. Many had to make a long /\ journey into, the country in that condition. |
