Whangape was busy till a late hour on Saturday night, getting away south at 3.30 a.in yesterday. The s.s. Corinna has been detained on the West Coast through bad weather, but will arrive here to-morrow with a cargo of Westport coal. The s.s. Invercargill arrived about 6.30 yesterday morning from* Colac Bay with a cargo of timber. She was berthed at the main wharf. The Shaw Savill and Albion Company's ship Taranaki, now on her way from London, is to make Timaru her first port of call. She has a general corga. The s.s. Kini arrived from Oamaru about 6 o'clock on Saturday evening. She had some transhipments for the Whangape from Oamaru, and also has some general cargo for this port. She gets away north to-day. The barque John o' Gaunt hove m sight off the port early on Saturday and was brought m by the tug m the afternoon. She left Port Chalmers on Friday and made a smart run along the coast. She has a part cargo of grain and completes her loading here for Home on account, we understand, of Messrs Friedlander Bros., of Ashburton. The John o' Gaunt is a fine looking vessel, and Captain Cannell pays his first visit m her to this port. She is to come to the wharf to-day, and will soon be ready for sea again.
