FIRE AT SYDENHAM.

SUDDEN DEATH. Per Press Association. i CHRISTCHURCH, October 7. About 8 o'clock last night a fire broke \ out m Colombo street, Sydenham, m a ' store and stables owned by Mr Gill, and occupied by Mr Win. Westland. The [ buildings were completely destroyed. During the progress of the fire engineer Wm. Abbott, of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, fell down m a fainting fit while driving the Extinguisher engine. He was carried into a shop close by and medical aid summoned, but he expired without regaining consciousness. He had been m the brigade a number of years, and leaves a wift und five young children.
