At the inquiry into the stranding of the Stormbird the Court held that Captain Crawford was guilty . of careless navigation and his certificate was suspended for three months, aud he was ordered to pay the costs The Court also held that the mate, Huggins, should have called the captain sooner, and his ceriifijale was suspended for one month. December 10. The late Captain Anderson was buried to-day, with military honour*. There waß a large attend ince of the permanent force, volunteers and civilians. A strong northerly gaie, accompanied by heavy rain, raged last night, but cleared off to-day. DUN EDI N, December 9. A six-roomed house m High Street, owned by H. F. ffardy, and occupied by R. H. Fraper, was burned down early this morning. The was fire occasioned by a flannel being left m front of a gas stove. Insurances £175 on the building m the New Ztaland, and furniture £150 m the Standard. December 10. James Falconer, late proprietor of a hotel at Bald Hill Flat, died suddenly whilst out driving. He appears to have got out of the trap, the horse then got away, and m running to overtake it deceased is supposed to have overexerted - himself, thus causing death.
