CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
A meeting of directors of the Caledonian Society was held last evening at Mr C. ri. Fraser's office, Alliance Chambers. The president, Mr Thomas Pringle, occupied the chair, and there were also present Messrs Caldwell, Courtis, Sinclair, Hall, Priest, Dalgleish, Ferguson, Lillieo, Cameron, and Mahoney. Apologies were accepted for the nonattendance of Messrs Gunn, Gillies, Mcßride, and Bruce. Five tenders were received for the erection of a new shed, and the lowest that of Mr E. Foden at £61 8s 6d was unanimously accepted. A long letter was received from Lieutenant F. A. Raymond, written on behalf of the Military Carnival Committee, asking for the use of the society's ground. As the directors present had very little information before them— they particularly desired to know if horses were to be used, for if they were the ground, on which a large Bum of money has lately been spent m laying down m grass, is likely to suffer— it was agreed that as there was no present hurry, the matter be deferred so that more information could be laid before the directors. On the motion of Messrs Ferguson and Dalgleish, it was unanimously resolved that the Battalion Band be engaged for the New Year gathering on the same terms as last year (£l6). A conversational discussion took place upon the question of having a railway siding put m at the grounds, it being eventually agreed that it was rather too late m the day to move m this matter now. It was recognised that a aiding would be of great advantage. A brief discussion took place on finals for the bicycle races, it being agreed that the winner of each heat be eligible to compete m the final. The question of advertising and printing was left to the secretary to deal with. Mr Hall, as chairman and convenor of the ground committee, gave m bis report on ground improvements, and it was resolved that the front row of trees near the lawn be removed. Borne parts of the ring fencing which required attention are also to be seen to at once. A motion by Me Hall that tenders be called for the licensed victuallers' booths was lost, as against an amendment by Mr Ferguson that they be sold as usual by public auction. The meeting closed at 9.20 p.m. with a vote of thanks to the chairman. ________^^_^__ —
