RAILWAY RETURNS.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 8. The traffic on the railways since the beginning of the financial year up to the present time has been much heavier than during the Bamn pvriod last year and the receipts for 12 months ending March 31st are expected to considerably exceed the previous year. The following are some of the increases :— Nearly 250,000 passengers, about 27,000 parcels, 11,000 tons of timber, 181,000 sheep, 23ti,000 tons of grain, 55,000 of minerale, 21,000 of general merchandise. The receipts from goods are about £70,000, from passenger £18000 ad from all sources £95,000 more than for the same period last yeur. Four more powerful locomotives ordered by Mir Railway Department have arrived, and three are expected by the Delphic miking ten m all. The Department hope to have them all working on the Southern lines by Christmas'.
