Per Press Association. HAWERA, September 12. Mr Astbury, a candidate for Hawera, addressed the electors last uight, He
sympathised with the Legislation of the Seddon Government, and on a no-confl-dence, motion wuuld vote with Mr Seddon, bat thereafter would claim independence to judge Ministers on their measures and administration. He favoured Federation ; would abolish the Customs duties on a number of articles, and sweep away the land-tax £500 exemption, and increase the land tax to Hd to make up the loss of Customs revenue; and was m favour of prohibition. He received a vote of thanks.
Mr J. McLachlan, a former member for Asbburton, and a candidate for the seat at the coming election, addressed a gathering of electors at Mr Thomas's horse y.irds on Saturday. He had not got far when a personal question cropped up, Mr John McKeague claiming that vjr McL'ichlan hari undertaken not to o, pose him (Mr McKeague) at the coming election. Mr McLachlan denied that he had ever given any such undertaking, nnd the two men had a lively wordy set-to.
