Lieutenant Peary's expedition failed to reach any unexplored point. WELCOME RAIN. Calcutta, September 12. Rain has fallen m the Western India districts, where drought conditions prevailed. MASSACRE OF A FRENCH EXPEDITION. Paris, September 12. News has been received that an immense body of Tuaregs annihilated the French expedition under M. Feureau, th* 1 well known African explorer, and Colonel Lamy, whu had charge of the protecting military column. Besides M. Foureau, three civilians, M. Dorian, Deputy for the Loire, M. Vilatti, of the meteorological service, and M. Leroy, a tourist, accompanied the pirty. The expedition was nnking it 3 way from Algeria to Lake Schad, and had reached the vicinity of the town of Air when the massacre occurred. Terrible losses were inflicted on the Turaega.
