A meeting of the council of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was held at the Grosvenor Hotel yesterday afternoon. Present— -Mr C. N. Macintosh, vice-president, m the chair, Messrs Out ten, Banks, McQueen, Langdon, Knubiey, and Palliser. A good deal of correspondence was read from the Colonial Secretary with respect to netting the lakes, and after considering it it was resolved that the Colonial Secretary be written to intimating that this society desire to net the lakes, and that it be empowered to make regulations re the same as early as possible. The chairman's (Mr £. Richardson's) action with respect to the appointment of a ranger for the Geraldine district was confirmed. The council also approved the secretary's action m connection with forwarding plan, etc., relating to Lake Alexandrina and McGregor's lagoon. Attention was drawn to the outcome of a prosecution m Invercargill of a man who had a license to fish "one river only," and as the council were m the dark as to how such, licenses were , granted, the secretary was instructed to write to the councils of the southern , societies asking for information— under what Act or by what authority people can get licenses to fish m one stream ! only. It was reported that the ranger had m the course of the month liberated 1 a number of perch, m the waters of 1 Totara Valley chiefly, and to the care of , supporters of the society m that district. ; After a conversational discussion about one or two of the rivers generally, the ; secretary was instructed to arrange with the ranger to forward as many [ fish as possible from the Temuka '■ river to the? Pareora river, the Timaru members of the Council to be duly adi vised of the carrying out of such an ar--1 rangement.so that they could give as > much assistance as possible with the ' distribution. It may be noted here .that * this transference of the fish from one 1 ' river to another has been, contemplated * for some time, and when carried out * promises to be of great benefit to anglers who -fish both rivers, or either the Temuka or Pareora only. Some matters m connection with the rangers was dealt with m committee, ami m conversation as to the , rivers it transpired that the Rangitata is m fine order, the Opihi a little cloudy, the Temuka m good order, and the Pareora rather too low for successful fishing,
