Rzuagyi, who resigned owing to a split m the Hungarian Liberal Party, persists m his resignation. THE DISARMAMENT CONFERENCE. St. Petersburg, December 11. The Czar's Disarmament Conference, which assembles here m February, will be limited to diplomatists, unassisted by financial or military experts. It is feared that the continental armament will interfere with a successful outcome ' of the objects of the conference. THE CUBAN DEBT. Washington, December 11. The Cuban debt will form the subject of negotiations for the future Government proposed to be established by America. AMERICAN TRADE. The inland trade report shows that the business done m America during November was the largest of any month on record. The railway traffic aggregate shows an increase of 11 per cent, over that of 1892. Received December 13th, 1.10 a.m. OBITUARY. December 12. Calixto Garcia, one of the prominent Cuban leaders, died here, from pneumonia. ACOIDENT a TO A BATTLESHIP. The American battleship Massachusetts struck an obstacle off Go* vernor's Island, New York harbour. Five of her compartments are filled with water. Repairs will be executed at Isew York. Received December 12th, 9 a.m. RAILWAYS IN SIAM. London, December 11. Lord Elgin, speaking at Moulmein, 1 Lower Burma, said that the construction of the Burma-Siamene railway depended upon the views of the Siamese Government. A FATHER CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTER, Heeently Thomas Senior, a reeident of Canningtown, was committed for trial for manslaughter of his eight months' old son through neglecting to call a doctor. The evidence at the inquest showed that the parents were members of a sect known as the Peculiar People, who did not believe m doctors' treat*
ment, but got the elders of the sect t< lay hands on and pray for the child The prisoner had twelve children, sever of whom had died and he had nevei called m a doctor. The Court oi Queen's Bench now decided that though Senior was admittedly a kind father, he had been rightly convicted of man slaughter owing to his neglect to obtain medical aid. Received December 13th, 1.10 a.m. REPRIEVED. December 12. Lieutenant Warke, who was sentenced to death for the murder of Jane Yates, of Liverpool, has been reprieved. A MADMAN. The Bank of England trespasser turns out to be a demented English gentleman. THE NEWFOUNDLAND FISHERMEN. The Admiralty invite the Newfoundland fishermen to enrol as stokers and seamen of the naval reserve. Received December 13th, 1.20 a.m. ALPINE CLIMBING. Sir W. Conway has climbed Aconcangua, and attempts the ascent of Mt. Sarmiento. A MODEL ADMINISTRATION. The American Treasury officials are studying the Jamaican administration as a model for Puerto Rico. PERSONAL. General Raffael Inglesias, President of Central America Republic, has sailed for Europe. He visits London and Paris. THE DREYFUS CASE. Paris, December 12. The anti-Dreyfusard journals violently attack the Court of Cassation, and invite the army to avenge the insult. There are persistent rumours that the arrival of Captain Dreyfus is imminent, and that an escort of 150 troops is m readiness to meet him. Major Picquart's court-martial is adjourned sine die. ENGLAND AND GERMANY. Berlin, December 12. The Emperor m conversation with the President of the Reichstag said that although Germany's relations were peaceful, the international situation requires great attention. He acknowledged Great Britain's compliance with Germany m connection with the recent African agreement. SAMOA. It is reported m Berlin that the Powers have agreed to occupy Samoa, Germany beginning with Upolu. THE POLICY OF THE VATICAN. Rome, December 12. His Holiness the Pope has decided that the Vatioan policy shall be antiCarlist. THE MAD MULLAH. Bombay, December 12. The mad mullah wns expelled from Swat and fled to Kositant. EGYPT. Cairo. December 12. The Egyptian Government propose that mixed tribunals be renewed for one year instead of five years, to enable the Powers to consider modifications m the system.
