To pick-up 1 a late number of the Era or Stage, l and notice the number of musical > comedies that are being played' m < London, and the provinces would ( prove a revelation. The reason of '* their success is not far to seek, i they are provided for laughing . pqr- ,1 poses only, the days of intricate plots, ] social problem studies, and heartrend- i ing tragedies, are over. Theatregoers '. want to be amused. Laughter is the < keynote of success m modern produc- '. tions, and that " The Gay Parisienne " I is a laughing success its career has i already proved. It was first produced i at the Duke of York Theatre, London, i where it ran for over 300 nights. At the i present time there are no less than fourr i teen companies touring the English, provinces with this piece as the star attraction. It is the most successful, production of recent years, and has made more money for managers, than any i piece since " Pinafore " was first produced.
