The match between Nuttall and Ernest Cavill for the championship of the world and £500 a-side, was swum at Doncaster yesterday. The race was witnessed by a great crowd of people. Nuttall won the toss and selected the right hand side of the baths. He was quickest away, and when thirty yards had been covered, led Cavill by two yards. By the time, the fourth length of the baths had been negotiated, he had increased the advantage to six lengths, and kept steadily increasing his lead until Gavill retired. Prior to the race the betting was 6 to 4 on Nuttall. Time— 6min 38sec. Tyers and Percy Cavill have arranged to swim one mile between the piers at Blackpool on the 18th, five quarter miles at Blackpool on the 22nd, and half a mile on the lake at Manchester or Hollingsworth before the 30th.
