DUNEDIN, December 9. CATTLE. 141 head of fat cattle were yarded. About half were fairly heavy bullocks of prime quality, the remainder medium and light weight bullocks and heifers. The sale was fairly brisk and prices an improvement on those of last week. Best bullocks sold at £8 to £9 15s, medium £6 10s to £7 15a, light £4 7s 6d to £6, best cows and heifers £6 5s to £7 2s 6d, ordinary £3 5s to £5. SHEEP. 2034 fat sheep were penned, a large proportion shorn. With the exception of a few pens the whole entry was made up of medium and light weight sorts, which are preferred by the trade at this season. At the opening prices were fairly brisk, but as the sale progressed the demand slackened off considerably, and towards the close prices declined fully Is per head compared with those ruling last week. Crossbred wethers (m the wool) sold at 13s to 15s 6d, crossbred wethers (shorn) 9s 6d to 12s 3d, crossbred ewes (m the wool) lls to 14s, crossbred ewes (shorn) 8s 6d to lls. PIGS. Only 68 pigs were penned, principally suckers, which met a splendid sale m favour of sellers. GRAIN. Wheat. — The demand for really prime milling samples continues good at late quotations, but medium sorts are not so much sought after. Fowl wheat is scarce and finds ready buyers at full rates. Prime milling velvet sells at 4s 9d to 4s lOd, extra choice 4s lid to ss, prime milling tuscan 4s 8d to 4s lOd, medium milling 4s 4d to 4s. 6d, fowl wheat 4s to 4s 3d ; Backs m. Oats.— The demand has fluctuated considerably. A fair quantity has been quitted at full rates. This week the demand is not so keen, and little business is passing as buyers demur to purchase at late quotations, while sellers evince little disposition to accept lower prices. Prime milling is quoted at 2s Id to 2s lid, best feed 2s to 2s Id, medium Is lOd to Is lid ; sacks extra. Barley. — Prime malting samples are offering sparingly. Medium and milling are more plentiful but meet with little enquiry ; fred continues to move off steadily at quotations. Prime malting is quoted at 3s to 3s 6d, good 2s 8d to 2s lOd, medium 2s 5d to 2s 7d, feed 2s to 2s 4d : sacks extra.
