The next German mail packet leaves Melbourne 4th January. Due at Berlin 13th February. The next French mail packet leavea Melbourne 2nd January. Due at Marseilles on 2nd February. The next mail for the United Kingdom (via San Francisco), closes at Timaru on 23rd inst. ; due m London Jan. 27th. Ths next direct mail for the United Kingdom and Europe will leave Wellington, per Rimutaka, on 24th inst. ; due m London 2nd Feb., 1897. Mails for Tonga, Samoa and Fiji will close at Auckland, per Ovalau, on 16th inst. - Mails for Fiji, Hawaiian Islands, Victoria (8.C.), Vancouver^Canada, and United States (connecting with Miowera leaving Sydney on 12th inst., and correspondence to be specially addressed per Miowera), will close at Auckland on 7th inst., at 4 p.m., for despatch per Botomahana.
