BURNSIDE MARKETS.
DUNEDIN, September 9. CATTLE, 144 head of fat cattle were yarded, quite half being little better than half fat. Competition for killable lines was much brisker, and prices on an average £1 better than last week. Best bullocks sold at £8 to £9 7s 6d, medium £6 10s to £7 10s, light and inferior £4 10a to £5 17s 6d, best cows £5 to £8 10s,. ordinary £4 co £5, inferior £1 10s to £3 10s. SHEEP. 4828 fat sheep were penned. One half were sold for export, and the rest purchased=for local consumption or finishing off on turnips. With "a few exceptions those forward were of an ordinary description and not heavy weights. The fxceptions were two lots of really prime wethers which brought 17s, and a couple of lots extra heavy. Longwool ewes sold from 15s to 15s 9d. The demand was slack and sales were only effected at a reduction of Is to Is 6d per head on wethers, and fully Is fad per head on ewes from last week. Best crossbred were quitted at 16s to 17s, ordinary 14s to 15s 6d, medium and light 11s to 13s 6d, extra prime crossbred ewes 14s 3d to 15s 9d, prime 13s to 14s, ordinary 11s to 12s, light and inferior 9s to 10s, merino wethers 6s 6d to 10s 6d. PIGS. 195 pigs were penned, mostly stores, no prime bacon or porkers. Full grown stores were m great request, and sold at 18s to 265, half grown lls to 16s, suckers 68 to 9s ; prime grain-fed bacon pigs are worth from 30s to 50s, porkers from 21s to 28s. G-EAIN. Wheat.— There is no demand for prime milling except at prices which holders do not care to accept. Fowl feed is sought after. Prime milling tuscan and red wheat are quoted at 3s 6d to 3s Bd, prime velvet 3s 9d to 3s 10^d, fowls' feed 38 to 3s M ; sacks m. * Oats.— -There .is no change m prices. Bright heavy are saleable up to Is Bid, pood la Bd, medium and discoloured Is 6d to Is 7£d. A good deal of business is passing m seed oats, prime long tartarians bringing 2s 3d, Sutherlands up to Is lOd ; sacks extra. Barley.— There is practically no business doing, except for lower feed sorts which are wor-i Is 8d to 2s Id ; sacks extra.
