WELLINGTON F. WANGANUI. (By Telegraph.) WELLINGTON, September 9. The football match, Wellington v. Wanganui, was played to-day, about 700 persons being present. The visitors, with the wind m their favour, scored a penalty goal, a try, and a potted goal [nine points) m the first spell to nil. In the second spell the local team simply ran over the visitors' and scored four tries, two of which were converted, and potted one goal, {.he game ending m a victory for Wellington by 20 points to 9 points. rHE ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENT. DUNEDIN, September 9. The first round of the New Zealand Association Football Tournament was played to-day on the Caledonian ground before a fair crowd. The match was between Auckland and Otago and resulted m a win for Auckland by 3 goals to nil. The visitors were better individually, their combination was far superior and defence very strong. In the first spell, they had much the best of the play and put up two goals. The local team played much better m the second spell and the goal-keeper was pressed for some time, Otago having bad luck m not getting one goal. The visitors then attacked and soon scored a goal. The following will represent the United 2nd v. Zealandia at Geraldine to-day : — T. Austin, B. Stewart, W. Gore, R. McLeod, Bailey, Kennington, J, Rose, R." Aitken, J. Kinavan, ,S. Bryan, E. Beckley, E. Johnstone, T. Cogan, W. Clouston, and E. Dean.
