WELLINGTON REGATTA
(By Iblbgrafh.) WELLINGTON. January 22. The strong north-westerly wind whicli blew all day interfered considerably with the enjoyment of the holiday, which was observed to celebrate the fifty-sixth anniversary of Wellington Province. The principal attraction m town was the annual regatta of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club, but the fixture did not create so much interest as usual owing to the fact that the competitors did not include any boats from other ports. The heavy sea running m the harbour gave the smaller craft a rough time of it. The Waitangi won the first class yacht race by 55 minutes, the Maritana being second. The Isca carried off the second class event, with the Rona second The Jennie Reid had an easy victory m the third class race. A large number of excursionists travelled by rail and by harbour steamers.
