ALLEGED ASSAULT.

(By Telegraph.) CHRISTC HURCH, December 24. At the Magistrate's Court this morning, Dr DeKeuzi, Messrs T. D. Harman (solicitor), Richard Brown Bone (settler), and Alfred Reynolds (hairdresser), were charged with assaulting Richard D. Thomas, solicitor. Tn his opening statement, the counsel for the prosecution said that on the 19th instant Thomas received a telephone message to attend at Harman's office. He went round and found defendants there. Deßenzi said he wanted to ask Thomas what had been said about him at the Hospital Board. Thomas declined to answer, and turned to leave the office, when Deßenzi said, "No you don't. You said I ought to be prosecuted. Put up your hands." Thomas replied that he had a weak heart and was physically unfit to combat. Harman did not interfere. Deßenzi then pulled up his shirtsleeves and struck Thomas m the face, knocking him against the window. Thomas then got out of the room. A letter was ret ceived from Harman stating that he was no party to the fracas— thai it all happened so suddenly that he could not interfere. Reynolds was asked by Brown to go to the office to witness his signii ture. After hearing the evidence, Dr Deßenzie was committed for trial ; the case against the others was dismissed,
