COMMERCIAL.

Messrs Guinness and LeCren report having held a large clearing sale of live and dead stock, implements, etc., at Mr Balfour's farm, Sea down, on Friday last. There was a large attendance of the public, and for each lot submitted bidding was very spirited. Sheep sold at advanced rates, as the following prices indicate :— s-bred ewes, 6-tooth, 11s up to 11s lOd, l-bred hoggets up to 8s 6d, fat ewes 10s up 11s 4d. Horses sold well, and prices obtained for these ranged from £7 10s up to £20. The implements, etc., also brought very satisfactory prices, and the sale taken as a whole, was the best that has been held m this district for some considerable time.

The Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association, Limited (per Mr J. Mundell, auctioneer), report on the horse market at Tattersall's yards, on Saturday :— Our entries comprised 59 liorses, cows, implements, harness, etc. The demand continues good for young farm horses, but weedy and aged stock is hard to sell at any price. On account of Mr Landels, Oamaru, we sold 6 really good young draughts at prices ranging from £16 10s to £20. A large proportion of our general entry was sold at the following quotations : — Draughts, young with trial, £14, £15 10s, £16 10s, £18, £19 10s to £20 ; do. light and weedy, £5 10s, £7 15s to £9; aged harness sorts, £13 to £14; hackneys, £5 10s to £7. Cows, demand poor ; no sales to report. Drays, harness, etc., at satisfactory prices.

Messrs D. ulaclean and Co. report on the horse market at their yards on Saturday, as follows : — We entered 24 head of draughts and light horses. For the former there was a fair demand, but very little doing m the class of hacks offering. We quote : — Medium to good draughts at from £12 10s to £18 ; inferior and aged, £5 to £8 ; hacks and light harness horses, medium, up to £10 10s ; and others at from £3 10s to £6. On account of the Colonial Investment and Agency Company of New Zealand, limited, we sold six quarter-acre sections at Kensington, for £67 10s, to Mr T. Wells ; and for Messrs King Bros. 300 trusses hay at satisfactory prices.
