SOCIAL AT PLEASANT POINT.

On the evening of Friday, the 26th ult., a " Chrysanthemum Evening" was held by the lady members of the Pleasant Point Presbyterian Mutual Improvemeut Society, and was a great success. The proceedings were commenced by an address delivered by the Rev. J. White, the president. The first musical item was "The Song of Chrysanthemums," an original and meritorious composition by Miss Morris. 'It was excellently rendered by Misses Marie Morris, M. Bishop, and Lily Jones. Afterwards a nicely written article, on " Chrysanthemums," from the pen of Miss Marie Morris, was effectively read by Miss Lily Jones. Then followed "By the Fountain" sung by Miss Bishop, and encored. Miss Morris sang "Oh hush thee, my Babie," and m response to an encore gave " Within a mileo' Edinboro Toon," Doth items pleasing the audience immensely. "The Bridge of Sighs," excellently recited by Miss L. Jones, brought the first part of the programme to a close s , and during an interval of ten minutes light refreshments were handed round. The second part opened with a recitation by Miss A. Jones, who acquitted herself admirably. Miss M. Morris sang with great taste " Sing sweet Bird," and m compliance with a strong encore gave " She wore a Wreath of Roses." Miss Worth ington read one of Douglas Jerrold's " Caudle Curtain Lectures," very much to the amusement of the audience. Miss Bishop sang "For ever and for ever," which was very well received. Then followed the duet " Excelsior," by Misses Morris and Bishop. During the evening Misses Lambert and Morris performed the arduous duty of accompanists, and the former contributed as a piano solo "Polonaise" (Chopin). This was a fitting termination to the best concert ever given at the Point, and after hearty cheers had been given for the chairman and the indefatigable conductor, Miss M. Morris, the hall was cleared for dancing, which the visitors entered into with true spirit. The hall was beautifully decorated with draperies, pictures, and graceful trails of green.
